Discussion Question
In Wednesday's Gospel we learned that we receive more
happiness when we give than when we receive. Father Farrell told
us that this is because, when we give, we are doing what Jesus
did. Jesus gave His life for us. When we imitate Him by giving to
others, we receive special joy. Remember a time when you gave
something important to another person. How did you feel
afterward? Why did you feel this way? |

Coin Challenge Update
Better late than never... It took us a
while to get the results of the Coin Challenge this year. We
raised about $1,800 which will go toward teacher salaries and
scholarships in El Salvador. We were a bit short of our goal but
everyone did a great job! The 3rd grade class was the
overall winner again. This class also won last year as second
graders. They will be enjoying ice cream sundaes next week!
Also, congratulations to the 2nd grade who came in second and the 4th grade which was third. |

Principal's Corner
As we bring the 2011-2012 school year to a close, we want to say
"Thank You" for everything that you have done to make the school year
successful! The students have accomplished much academically,
spiritually, emotionally, and physically. It has been wonderful to
work with them! We also want to congratulate the 8th
Grade students who will graduate tonight. They have been very
good leaders for the rest of the students, and they will be very
successful in their future studies. We wish them all the best as
they take the next step in their education, and we hope to hear about
their many accomplishments in the future!
We want to bid a fond farewell to Connie Winchester as she retires
after 24 years as a First Grade Assistant. She will be getting
married and entering a new phase of her life. We wish her all the
best! We also will say good-bye to Kathy Taber and Nancy Ringwald
who will be retiring after 16 years of teaching at St. Pius X.
Both of them also served many years at other schools, and we were so
blessed to have them in our Middle School giving so much of themselves
to our students. We wish them both happiness and peace in this new
phase of their lives.
We want to announce that Jill Starliper will become Director of the
Resource Department full time next year, and we will be hiring a new
part time Third Grade Teacher to join Mary O'Brien. Kathy Calvert
will be filling the position as part-time teaching assistant in First
Grade. We welcome her to the staff. We will also be hiring a
part-time nurse for the school. This position will be from 9 AM
-1 PM daily. We are looking for a licensed RN to fill this
slot. If you are interested or know anyone who might be
interested, please have them send a resume to bherman@spxparish.org.
Debbie Taylor will continue as our Cafeteria Manager and she will be
joined by Jill Huntine as a part time assistant. We are looking
for one more part-time assistant. If interested contact Mr.
Herman. With these changes, we will no longer need crew chiefs for
our school lunches. However, we will continue to need parent
volunteers to serve the lunches. Please consider this volunteer
position as we continue to provide delicious, healthy lunches for your
children in a timely way so that they also have time for fresh air and
exercise at lunch time.
It will be a busy summer at St. Pius as you can tell. We wish
you all a great summer! Relax and be safe! We will see you
all again on August 15th as we begin our next educational adventure. Blessings, Bill & Theresa |

School Lunch Box Please take a moment to recognize the nearly 75 parents who volunteer in the school lunch program regularly by clicking here
. These folks commit to a few hours
each month to prepare and serve our children lunch. Volunteers
help keep lunch prices low and provide an opportunity to socialize for a
few hours with peers. Working lunch is "fun with a
purpose". Recently the 6th graders wrote essays for the Healthy
Hoosier School Award application and many of them mentioned the
"hardworking", "amazing", "caring" lunch moms (and dads!) as one of the
reasons we have nutritious and delicious lunches. Hats off to all
who are making a difference serving in the lunchroom!
On a business note, if you have an
outstanding lunch bill, please pay by the last day of school.
Report cards will be held if you have a balance due. Picnic on the Playground THANK YOU
: Thanks you to the following parents
who volunteered at the annual Picnic on the Playground on Friday!
It was sunny and hot but a great success due to the many hands we
had serving the picnic fair, including strawberry shortcake with whipped
topping: Robin and Kyle Korkhouse, Stepanie Van Horn, Chris
Scherer, Jenny Banner, Joy Stiver, Cindy Franz, Kim Wilson, Robin
Hensley, Kristen Quarto, and Kathleen Prechtel. Thank you to
Debbie Taylor and Brett and staff for setting up for us! |

IMPORTANT: Virtus Training Announcement We have been able to secure a VIRTUS training session to be held here at St. Pius X on Tuesday, June 12th

youth group trip volunteers, PTO volunteers and new teachers. You
